Wasn’t planning on recording here today but when I heard the guy setting up his harp I couldn’t resist grabbing some of the atmosphere on this busy street. We’re at the top end near to Opie Street. I stood outside Tickerty Boo for the recording.

One of the most famous and historic streets in Norwich. Elm Hill is featured in many a TV shows, including Monty Python’s Flying Circus, as well as a number of big screen
productions too – most notably was Stardust. The street is cobbled and I was there at noon to capture the chimes of a near-by church.

A night time walk takes us down Lower Goat Lane in Norwich. The rhythmic sound is me walking and my sleeve brushing against my coat.
Footsteps approach and pass. A whistle. Voices and more footsteps. Someone coughs and as if cued, the lane is alive with music and footsteps and voices.

It’s one of the oldest covered markets in the country. Here I walk up and down the rows.

This recording was done on Friday night as I was sitting in The Snug with a glass of beer and some fine food from the Madder Mash Kitchen.

Update: The Mash Tun closed in August 2019. At the time of writing (2023) the building is currently occupied by The Strangers Tavern
