St Benet’s Abbey is a ruined abbey of the Order of Saint Benedict situated on the River Bure in Norfolk. On a sunny day such as this, the river was full of boats.

Upstream on the River Winsum in a very a more peaceful location. You can hear the gentle flow of the river and plenty of birdsong.

Listening under a bridge where the Marriot’s Way passes over the River Wensum. Occasional walkers, joggers and cyclists cross the bridge.

Apparently there’s been a mill on this site since 1454. Looking around at the river and the nearby countryside it’s easy to imagine that very little has changed over the years. All the time I was there I saw or heard no traffic. Just the sound of the wind in the nearby trees on Mill Road and flowing waters of the River Wensum.
